Pianist Anastasia Antonacos will present the world premiere of Oh Monarch, How Beautiful You Are for solo piano by composer Alexandra du Bois at the Quad State Conference on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Endicott College’s Manninen Center of the Arts. Oh Monarch, How Beautiful You Are invites sonic meditation on evidence of climate change in the Northeastern United States and simultaneously with internal recitation of gathas from peace activist, writer, poet, teacher, and Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh.The new work was commissioned jointly by Maine and New Hampshire Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association. It was written, in part, while du Bois was composer-in-residence at Harrison House Music, Arts & Ecology, Joshua Tree, California and at Avaloch Farm Music Institute, Boscawen, New Hampshire (with Parhelion Trio for their collaboration with du Bois on their Vera Rubin: Dark Matter project) during 2019. Elementary School at Chewonki seeks a dynamic individual to incorporate music with instrument and vocal instruction into the elementary school and to assist our teachers in the facilitation of our elementary program.
The music teacher creates and delivers music curriculum for our younger students and directs instrument and vocal ensembles for our older students. This teacher works in collaboration with the teaching team to provide music instruction and integration throughout the school curriculum and activities.
The teaching assistant position for the Elementary School at Chewonki starts in mid-late August and ends in mid-June. The assistant works directly with the elementary teachers to assist the facilitation of integrated, place-based lessons in all core subject areas, experiential outdoor activities, and flow of the school day. The assistant will uphold Chewonki standards and classroom protocols, and work with each teacher to support their teaching methods and positive discipline. The teaching assistant is an integral part of the school’s division staff, who will be cross-trained to assist in other school programs, based on background, education, training, and professional development.
