Piano Monster Festival

A piano monster festival is a piano ensemble performance given by pairs of performers playing piano four and eight hand repertoire simultaneously on multiple pianos. The performance takes place on stage and is led by a conductor.

The festival is a noncompetitive event for students from 5th grade to adults. Students from piano studios around the state prepare selected repertoire ahead of time. They then come together to rehearse and give a concert.

Teacher Information

Big News! Our 2026 Piano Monster Festival (PMF) aligns with our national affiliate’s 150th anniversary. The Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) offered grants to state affiliates to help celebrate this significant milestone and we received one in the amount of $1,000! Our goal is to have 150 performer’s (our highest ever) participate in our March festival.

In the spirit of celebration and collaboration, PMF 2026 is open to all piano studios — not just MaineMTA members. Share the news with colleagues so they and their students can join in the fun. Let’s make this the biggest PMF yet!

Parents will register their children. To make this easier for teachers:

  • Parents will be registering online.

  • There is a form you can fill out and give to parents, so they will know exactly what to enter. Click here to view and print the form. Parents will need all the information on this form to successfully register their children.

  • Teachers will receive a confirmation email whenever a student registers.

Tracking Charts - Need help tracking student assignments? Use these handy, printable, repertoire charts.

Teachers can play in the PMF, too! Go here and register to play the teacher piece, Waltz From Faust by Charles Gounod and Renaud De Vilback.

If you are not a MaineMTA member - There is a flat fee of $60.00. You will be contacted directly to collect the fee. Please note that your student’s participation will not be confirmed until this fee has been received. Instead of paying the fee, why not join MaineMTA? We very much want you to be a part of our organization!
