Southern Maine Music Teachers Association

The Southern Maine Music Teachers Association (SMMTA) includes about a dozen studios, with our students coming from Bath to Biddeford and everywhere in between. Our goals are to support independent music teachers and to provide opportunities for our students to grow.

Teacher support and enrichment takes place through casual “Coffee and Connect” conversations and through more formal events for teacher growth twice a year. An evaluations recital and an outdoor spring musical celebration are among our annual opportunities for students.

Are you a member of MaineMTA who lives in southern Maine but has not yet joined the SMMTA? Please join us! Contact Liz at lizmanduca@gmail.com or Alice at alicejpeterson@yahoo.com for more information. Non-members are invited to visit once before joining.

Meeting & Events Schedule

We’re excited for another year of music-making and community here in Southern Maine!

Along with bringing students together, SMMTA is also a space for teachers to connect, share ideas, and continue to grow professionally. This year, we’re planning monthly get-togethers where teachers can sight-read, play ensemble music, and support one another in our work.

In the spring, we’ll hold our annual outdoor music event where students can share their repertoire in a fun, relaxed setting. Expect to hear lots of Piano Monster Festival favorites floating through the air!

We’d love to expand our activities, and that’s where you come in. With more teachers involved, we’ll be able to offer even more opportunities for students and colleagues alike. If you’ve been considering taking a more active role, we  invite you to join us on the board. Your time, ideas, and enthusiasm will make a real difference in shaping the future of our chapter.

Together, we can create a year full of meaningful, joyful, and enriching musical experiences for our students and for ourselves as teachers.
